Learn an American Clog from the J. W. Pepper Collection, "The Sparrow Dance Clog"

Saturday

Location: Dock Boggs Room 347

A look at an often-neglected style, American clog dances, popular in early vaudeville and music
halls. These moderate-tempo tunes were favorites of northern fiddlers like Jean Carignan, Tommy Doucet, and Joseph Allard. Jean Carignan (1916-1988) was a fiddler from Québec who played with great technique and joy, and had a repertoire of over 7000 tunes! "The Sparrow Dance Clog" is from the early 20th century J. W. Pepper collection - a rare volume to find.
